When a person can no longer manage their personal affairs due to dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or other mental inability, a Guardian can be appointed by the Court to make decisions for the incapacitated person. We can help you become the Guardian for your loved one, or if you cannot be the guardian for some reason, we can help find a qualified Professional Guardian to assist.
A guardian is appointed by the court to act on behalf of an individual’s person, property, or both. Guardianships are established for individuals who need assistance in taking care of and protecting themselves and/or their property. Under Florida law, a person seeking appointment as a guardian may be represented by an attorney.
Our attorneys can go over what legal steps need to be taken to protect your loved one, assist and advocate for you during the guardianship court process, and guide you through the ongoing administration of the guardianship.
At Hitchcock Law Group, we represent both professional guardians and also individuals who are appointed to serve as guardians for family members. Professional guardians must complete a specialized course, pass a comprehensive examination, post a blanket bond with the court, undergo background investigations and register with the Department of Elder Affairs through the Statewide Public Guardianship Office. Family guardians must complete several requirements as well.
